Baby Wearing

Now I'm not an expert by any means, but I do feel like I've learned a little bit in the last 4 months with Wyatt. I have figured out how to nurse while sleeping, help him with his gas, and getting stuff done with a needy baby. I am a huge fan of what people call 'Baby Wearing'.

Baby Wearing is just that! Wearing your baby so you can get stuff done. I started when Wyatt was only 8 pounds (that is the recommended weight to start baby wearing). I would get laundry done, do the dishes, and make some dinner all while wearing my baby. For the last 4 months I have used a Snugli to tote him around (thanks to my wonderful Aunt who passed her's down to me), but just recently I was given a Baby Bjorn carrier by a moving neighbor, and it is by far the most WONDERFUL carrier out there. It even distributes the weight of your baby throughout your shoulders and back. The Snugli was great when Wyatt weighed less, but now that he's getting bigger, I'm desperate for comfort. And the Baby Bjorn does just that!

One of the best things about Baby Wearing is how calm your child will be. Now, I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think Wyatt had some issues with colic in the beginning months. Carrying him around in the Snugli soothed him and gave him a better distraction than I could ever give him. Hell, it even put him to sleep most of the time.

Now baby wearing has a whole new meaning for me. It is entertainment for my son. It is freedom for me. I face him outwards now and he loves to get a bird's eye view of his surroundings. Wyatt hates being stifled in any way. I can't even turn him to face me half the time because he's so interested in looking around. Now don't get me wrong, he still sleeps in it... but moving him to bed is a lot easier now when you have a Baby Bjorn. It opens very easily without distracting your baby at all. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is expecting or has just had a baby. :)
