There's mug art all over Pinterest lately. I've even seen it on A Beautiful Mess and here and here, too. And I freaking LOVE IT. This is a craft I can honestly say is easy and fun to do... and definitely for those that don't really "do" crafts (like me). Sorry if you've seen this before! I just thought it was too cool not to share.
I did this project with my best friend and her kids (and Wyatt, too). We pulled out the plastic vinyl tablecloth and let the kids go to town. Here's how to do it:
- Get white porcelain dishes. We used coffee cups since they're easy to find. We actually hit up the .99 store and bought a bunch.
- Get sharpies of any color! I've heard there is actual porcelain pens that you can use, but we did this on a whim and the sharpies seem to be just fine.
- DOODLE IT UP! And once you're happy with your design, bake the dishes at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Do not put these in the dishwasher or most of your design will wash away. Just gently hand wash. If you do make the mistake of sticking it in the dishwasher, don't fret! You can re-doodle and re-bake again. I believe that through time the art will probably wear off. Just natural wear and tear of handling your mugs will make them fade. I'm pretty sure porcelain pens made for this craft will last longer, but if you're just looking for something fun to do with the kids, this is the way to go.
I've been using my mugs for the past few days and they're holding up well! I just gently wash it when I'm done and everything seems fine. I'm anxious to do an entire dinner set! But I think I'll do it with porcelain pens instead. Hopefully I'll get a chance to blog about it and share that with you guys. Let me know if you've done this before and any tips you may have. Share them in the comments so others can see! Thanks guys!
