I concocted my own sugar scrub today and thought I'd share it with you. I really like it and I used it all over my body AND face. My face feels pretty awesome and I plan on using this scrub every few days. The best part is that it's made of all natural ingredients and pretty cheap to make.
What you'll need to make my Coconut Citrus Sugar Scrub-
-1 1/2 cup of sugar (I used unbleached sugar but you could use whatever. Maybe even brown sugar?)
-3 clementines or whatever citrus you want to use. I squeezed the juice of those three clementines, and felt like it was enough citrus. You could use lemon, lime, orange, whatever... maybe you have some lemon juice in your fridge? Use that. I'd say several tablespoons worth. The citrus acts as another exfoliant (same as glycolic acid).
-1 cup of coconut oil (or, if you don't have coconut oil, you can substitute with whatever oil you prefer).
Mix everything together and scrub up!
I find the scrub works really well if you really take the time to lather and work it in. I even used a paddle body brush (the one with the bristles) and just scrubbed. The scrubbing hurts so good! When you rinse the sugar off, the oil remains and keeps your skin super hydrated.
A few pointers-
-If you do use it on your face, after you rinse, go ahead and wash with regular face wash. I'm not totally comfortable with putting coconut oil on my face. I do sometimes but I'm really acne prone so I try not to clog my pores up. My face is still very moisturized and smooth so the stuff did the job.
-Shaving after this scrub will take off a lot of dead skin... it's so disgusting! But awesome.
-You're going to need to probably rinse your tub out pretty good after using the Coconut Citrus Sugar Scrub because of the oil. So be warned!
-This scrub will pretty much keep for awhile as long as you keep it in a container with a lid (like an old jar). Be sure to keep water out of it (it'll harbor bacteria if there's water) and use a spoon to scoop out (another way to avoid water getting in). I plan on keeping mine in the bathroom for when I'm ready to use it again.
